Introduction

The Cristal Controls Jasper building control system enables communication with network BACnet devices.  You can use it to:

  • send commands to relay groups on one or many Cristal Controls controllers for lighting, heating management and peak consumption.

  • manage peak demand (load shedding).

  • log BACnet activity.

  • manage system alarms.

  • schedule BACnet device activity.

  • create and maintain a user interface for your building control system.

About the Jasper interface

Please read this important information about the Jasper interface.

Accessing Jasper

To access Jasper, you need to connect a device with a web browser to the same network your Jasper controller is connected to.

Enter http://192.168.2.60 (or the address given by your installer) in the web browser address bar. A dialog box appears asking for the user name and password. (The default user name is “root” and the default password is “cristal”.)

Note: The most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Apple Safari allow access to all features in Jasper. Jasper also works with Internet Explorer 11 or newer, but Explorer provides access to a more limited feature set and graphic elements may not always render correctly.

Jasper uses WebSocket for displaying dataserver values. The port used by WebSocket is 7681.

Adaptive design

Adaptive design was used to create the Jasper interface. This means the screens you see differ in appearance depending on whether you view them on a large screen (e.g. computer) or small screen (e.g. mobile phone).

If you change the width of a web browser window on your computer, the interface adapts to either “computer” view (when the browser window is wide) or “mobile” view (when the browser window is narrow).

This manual shows images of Jasper screens in “computer” view. For more information, refer to Setting display language and web interface behaviour.

Undoing and redoing changes in the Jasper interface

Most of the Jasper interface does not have the undo and redo features.

  • On many pages, you can use your browser's Back or Reload buttons to prevent Jasper from accepting your changes. If you use these buttons with unsaved changes on the page, Jasper prompts you to save these changes.

  • Before you make substantial configuration changes, be sure to back up your configuration. For more information, refer to Backing up and restoring configuration files.

Features are organized into menus according to their use. For example:

  • The Data menu offers access to control cards, variables and everything that has to do with these elements of your BACnet network.

  • The Jasper menu offers access to core Jasper features and user interface configuration.

Controlling wireless BACnet devices

The CC-WiXBee version of Jasper serves to control wireless devices along with devices on a wired network. You can differentiate the wired-only from the wireless versions of Jasper by the logo:

About this manual

Several principles guided the creation of this manual:

Organization

We have organized this manual to follow, as closely as possible, the order of an installation.

Searchability

If you're using an electronic version of this manual, you can search it for terms that pertain to the topic you need to find.

On-screen objects

Items written in bold type indicate words visible on your screen (e.g. menu options).
